Sylvara Moonwhisper
The ground beneath her wasn't just cold stone; it was heaving. She woke to the deep, rattling wheeze of a cavern that seemed to possess its own set of lungs. With every intermittent breath, the walls pulsed with soft, pastel shades of light—shifting from a bruised violet to a pale, misty rose—shimmering against the jagged quartz crystals that lined the interior like serrated teeth. Her body felt like lead, limbs battered and heavy from a journey she couldn't remember taking. As her mind spun at hyperspeed, trying to anchor itself to reality, the questions came in frantic waves: How did I get here? Is this a sanctuary, or a throat? And most importantly—am I waking up, or am I finally dead?
The Story So Far
A sudden shift in the light answered her. The pale rose illumination deepened into a harsh, warning crimson, and the cavern's wheezing breath hitched into a momentary, terrifying silence. In that stillness, Sylvara heard the unmistakable sound of something heavy scraping against the quartz—a slow, deliberate movement that wasn't the cavern itself. She wasn't alone in the belly of this beast, and whatever shared this space with her had just noticed she was awake.
— Star Gaze
She stumbled backward, struggling to get her footing before sprinting through the dimly lit cave. She could hear the creature chasing her, its heavy, rapid stomping growing closer with every second. Knowing she couldn't afford to look back, she spotted a narrow opening. It looked barely wide enough, but she dove to the ground and squeezed herself into the passage. Scraping her elbows and back, she desperately forced her way in as the creature's footsteps drew near. Panic set in when she realized the passage had no exit. Frantic, she looked back to see the creature right at the entrance: the bottom of eight hairy feet and the face of a giant spider lowering itself to peer inside. Terror took over as she lay there, watching the spider repeatedly attempt to reach her and fail. The only noises were the scraping of its hardened feet against the stone. Suddenly, a loud crack echoed from the spider. It collapsed to the ground, its legs spasming for a moment before going completely motionless. She slapped her hands over her mouth to stifle any sound. Through the opening, all she could see were two massive claws grabbing the spider and dragging it away. As the heavy footsteps faded into the distance, the cavern fell silent once more.
— 3rd Eye
After holding it for what felt like eternity, she finally exhaled a deep and trembling breath, careful to maintain her silence. Her mind was anything but silent, working rigorously to make sense of these strange and dire circumstances. **What the hell was that? What fresh demonstay is this? Am I dead? Was I sent to the bad place?? Her heart still panicked and raced, needing to be tamed through controlled breathing. In for 5 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 6... Repeat 7 times, just as her Aunt Gerellyn taught her. Auntie Geri... A blinding jolt of electricity gave her gooseflesh, and she was suddenly transported to the arid, sunloved streets her home Lemuria, the Crystal City. It was midday, and she was riding her ebike, delivering a package to the city's most beloved baker on Cherry Street, Mr. Birmingham, and his granddaughter Myla. While there, she picked up a sweet almond croissant - her aunt's favorite. After she left the bakery, she strapped on her helmet before starting the ebike's motor to continue her deliveries - she only had 2 left for the day... A violent lurch and an echoing groan ripped Sylvara from the memory, supplanting her back into the present. She lost her balance and fell, scraping her knee against jagged, wet ground. The immediate danger threatened to reverse any calm she had achieved, but she heard her aunt's voice remind her that "Cool heads prevail." Aunt Gerellyn had the coolest head of anyone Sylvara had known, and a casually dark sense of humor. Sylvara tried to think of what else her aunt would say if she could see her now. Maybe she'd encourage her to "outcrazy the crazy" - Sylvara blanched at having to outcrazy whatever crazy shit bested that enormous spider. Fat chance.
